Catching up and filling everyone in

September and October flew by with a blink of and eye! We had a lot going on. Charlie started Kindergarten, Luke started pre-school.Will had his surgery on his neck on his birthday in September, which put him home for a little while and doing light duty thereafter. That wasn't fun, but then we celebrated Luke's birthday which was great! In October Nana and Papa came to visit which was so much fun, the boys had a blast with them. Then unfortunately, on October 24th Lukas and I were in the hospital. He has Type 1 diabetes. It all happened so quickly. He went for his well visit on October 13th, where he was almost 40 pounds and in the 95th percentile for weight. He was perfectly fine then! Within 10 days he started drinking and urinating like crazy and stopped eatting.  I took him to the Pediatrician on the 24th, they sent us straight to the ER at Schneider's Children's Hospital, at this point he had lost 6 pounds in 10 days ( a lot when you are only 40 to begin with). He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We were completely shocked because it is genetic, yet we have no one in our family on either sides with diabetes. So we spent some time in the hospital, Will and I learned how to test his blood by pricking his finger and how to give him his insulin shots. It was extrememly overwhelming, and emotional for us. But we are very lucky that Lukas is such an angel and has been so good through all of this.  We are grateful that it isn't something worse and is completely manageable. He will have a completely normal life and play sports and do whatever he wants to do. Of course, Halloween was very rough for him... being diagnosed with diabetes a week before the holiday, yey! The good thing is that Lukas can eat whatever he wants in moderation, we just have to cover for it with insulin. So that is where we are at right now, just taking it by day by day. Hope you all had a great Halloween!
